confident birthing (1 day)
What we’ll cover:
· Labor Timeline: What to expect during labor and what does it feel like in your body?
· Birth Anatomy & Physiology: What is happening in your body anatomically and physiologically? Understanding what is happening in your body throughout birth can help you feel more confident and less fearful even as you experience intense surges.
· Birth Options & Medical Interventions: How do you make choices during labor? Knowing your options can help you make informed, evidenced-based decisions for your birth.
· Comfort Measures & Labor Biomechanics: What are the most effective ways of managing labor pain? Even if you are planning on getting an epidural, it’s impossible to avoid all of the discomfort and pain of labor. Teaching your partner or support person how to effectively care for you during labor is especially important as hospitals are limiting visitors.
· Mental & Emotional Preparedness for Labor & Birth: How do you prepare you heart and mind for the journey of birth? Birth is a wholistic experience. Learning to manage the mental and emotional stress can significantly decrease one’s experience of pain.
· Pushing & Breathing Techniques: How do we use our position, breath, and alignment to push effectively? Learning to push effectively can limit the risk of perineal tearing and the use of vacuum to birth your baby.
· Immediate Postpartum Procedures: What happens right after you birth your baby? Learn about the common postpartum procedures for you and your baby.
This is a virtual course with an optional in-person comfort measures workshop.
